Localized Climate Action Initiative

Green Community Catalysts’ mission is to accelerate climate action on the community level.
We believe building awareness and working collaboratively (not in silos) is critical to achieving this.
Therefore, we started the Localized Climate Action Initiative.

It’s a call for participation from everyone interested in and/or working on climate action (adaptation or mitigation) at the local level. We hope to collect information from climate-focused, community-based organizations, municipalities and individuals with an interest in sustainability and climate-change.

Knowing who the “players” are on the local level, what their missions are, and the challenges they are having will be identified for the purposes of overall awareness, support and potential collaboration.

Our goal is to create a comprehensive database (and future map) of community-level players involved in this work. This will be useful for many including: individuals and philanthropists looking to support community-level organizations; those of us in the field looking for partners and collaborators; and, state and municipal level planners. Nothing similar currently exists.

Secondarily, we want to better understand common barriers and needs, and ultimately to strategize how and where resources should be directed. Especially, when regions and communities lacking support (i.e., “climate resource deserts”) are identified.

Green Community Catalysts is hoping to collaborate, with those of you that are interested, in applying what we learn for the greatest impact for communities nation-wide.

The Localized Climate Action Initiative deployment:

Phase 1: Collecting Information - Survey & Interviews

Phase 2: Data Analysis

Phase 3: Mapping Organizations

Phase 4: Dissemination - sharing the map and summarized data

Phase 5: Solution Development

Phase 1:

Take & Share the Survey

The data that we collect will help us address these challenges:

1. Frequently municipalities and community groups work in silos when they could be collaborating with other groups to share information, best practices and resources.

2. Individuals often struggle to find impactful local organizations to support - either as a volunteer or a donor.

3. Many community groups are not able to create the impact, or achieve the desired results.

Complete this survey to help us support and expand local climate/sustainability activities.

Data collected will:

* identify barriers faced by climate-focused organizations and municipalities, and

* map existing climate-focused organizations and municipalities to identify opportunities for collaboration and highlight communities with "climate action deserts" that need support

If you are involved in a local climate/sustainability focused organization, a municipality OR are simply an individual passionate about improving our climate, we need your input!
